What Makes Emerald Hills Special

Emerald Hills is a well-established, active community in Bel Air with a mix of condominiums, townhouses, villas, and single-family homes built between approximately 2000 and 2020. The development enjoys mature landscaping, winding streets, and an active residential feel, yet still offers direct access to the conveniences of Bel Air.

The community offers swimming pool, exercise room, and a community center that can be rented for events at a very reasonable price.  Your HOA is reasonably priced for what it covers.  In addition to the amenities, it covers snow removal, common ground maintenance and trash pickup twice per week.

A Bit of Local History & Character

Although Emerald Hills is relatively modern compared to older Bel Air neighborhoods, it has matured into its own character. Over the past decade, landscaping has filled out, shade trees have grown into their canopies, and the community amenities and patterns of life have become ingrained. Its growth aligns with Bel Air’s expansion and increasing desire for planned communities that balance convenience and charm.

Many current owners describe the neighborhood as “friendly and peaceful”—you’ll see neighbors walking pets, sharing small conversation on sidewalks, and organizing seasonal get-togethers. One resident’s quote sums it up nicely:

“We love the location, have awesome neighbors and love that they have a community pool.”

Location & Nearby Amenities

Emerald Hills enjoys a highly favorable location. You’re minutes from downtown Bel Air, grocery and everyday retail, and a range of restaurants and services. Interstate 95 is easily accessed, making commutes or regional trips manageable.

Here are a few local points of interest you may want to explore:

Schools & Education in the Area

Emerald Hills falls under the Harford County Public Schools (HCPS) system, one of Maryland’s larger and well-resourced districts. HCPS serves approximately 38,000 students countywide and is known for a range of academic and extracurricular opportunities. (District report cards, school ratings, and boundary maps can be found on the HCPS site.)

As a note of caution and full transparency: school boundaries can and do change. I encourage all prospective residents to verify the current attendance zones by contacting HCPS directly, or checking the most recent boundary maps, before making a decision.
