My Journey from New York to Bel Air, MD

Downtown Bel Air, Maryland

The first part of my adult life was ordinary. My husband, Brad, and I owned a home in upstate New York. We lived there with our three kids, dog, and cat. I was a middle school art teacher, and Brad worked for Lockheed Martin. We lived in the area that we both grew up in. We had purchased our first home right when we got married, and I loved our home. Over the years, we had made a lot of changes and updates to it. In my eyes, it was perfect.

In 2016, Brad was offered a new position at Lockheed Martin in Middle River, MD. This all came up rather quickly as we had no prior plans to move. Of course, being a creature of habit, I resisted this idea. Brad looked at me and said, “We have one life to live. Why wouldn’t we take an opportunity to try something new?”

So now, here we are in Harford County, Maryland. With each passing day, I have the opportunity to create my next chapter in life. Initially, moving to a place where we didn’t know a soul felt a little lonely. We thoroughly enjoyed exploring the area, trying new restaurants, and most importantly, experiencing slightly warmer weather than we were used to. However, it took time. Time to meet people, time to learn about the area, and time for it to feel like home.

In the past several years, we have grown to love this area. Strolling through the quaint towns of Bel Air, Havre de Grace, or North East, you can’t help but be charmed by the little shops and their unique finds. It feels like every corner has a story to tell. And the local restaurants? They’re a food lover’s dream come true, especially for seafood fans. The crab cakes here are just incredible – I promise, after trying them, you won’t look at crab cakes the same way when you’re on vacation.

What I also love about this place are the parks and walking trails. They’re just gorgeous, whether you’re looking for a fun family day out or a quiet spot to relax. And the convenience of being close to big cities like Baltimore, Washington DC, Philadelphia, and New York is just fantastic. We can be in the heart of a bustling city within a few hours. Plus, the beach is never too far away for those spontaneous weekend getaways. It’s like having the best of both worlds right at our doorstep.

So, was it worth it to make a move to a new state? Absolutely. This chapter of my life has been a great one to create. It inspired me to pursue a passion of mine with real estate. Going through the process of moving to a new area myself has been incredibly beneficial in my work with buyers. I’ve been in their shoes, navigating the uncertainties and excitement of settling into a new community. This firsthand experience allows me to connect with them on a deeper level and better understand their needs and concerns.

Similarly, having sold our family home in New York, I’ve gained invaluable insights into what it’s like to part with a place filled with memories. This experience has been a guiding light in my interactions with sellers, especially those who are embarking on the emotional journey of saying goodbye to a home they’ve cherished.

I feel my journey, with its fresh perspectives and personal experiences of relocating, have been an asset to my clients. I am proud to assist them on their own journeys, ensuring they feel understood and supported every step of the way. As I continue to explore and appreciate the charms of Harford County, I look forward to sharing these experiences with others, helping them find their own special place in this wonderful community.
