Box Hill Homes for Sale and Community Highlights
Welcome to Box Hill, one of the larger and more established residential communities in Abingdon, Maryland. Located in ZIP code 21009, Box Hill is known for its convenient location, mature neighborhoods, and a mix of single-family homes and townhomes. The larger Box Hill community is divided into two sections, Box Hill North and Box Hill South, and each has its own character, home styles, and school assignments. I’ve put this page together to provide an overview of Box Hill and help you determine which section you may want to explore further.
Box Hill North and Box Hill South
If you are considering a home in Box Hill, I recommend starting with the two individual neighborhood guides. They provide more detailed information about the homes, location, schools, nearby amenities, and current properties for sale in each section.
Box Hill North Homes for Sale
Box Hill North is located primarily east of Emmorton Road, west of Laurel Bush Road, and north of Abingdon Road. It is a large, established HOA community with a mix of single-family homes and townhomes. Homes were developed over several decades, including the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s, so you will find a fairly wide variety of architectural styles and property conditions.
Visit the Box Hill North Homes for Sale page for a closer look at the neighborhood, schools, homes, and current listings.
Box Hill South Homes for Sale
Box Hill South sits primarily around Abingdon Road and Emmorton Road. Much of the neighborhood was developed in the late 1980s and early 1990s and includes modest-sized single-family homes and townhomes, typically with three to four bedrooms. Sidewalks, mature trees, and established landscaping are common throughout the community.
Visit the Box Hill South Homes for Sale page for neighborhood-specific information and current homes on the market.
Convenient Abingdon Location
Box Hill is located in southern Harford County in ZIP code 21009. One of the biggest advantages of living here is convenience. Route 24 and I-95 are nearby, making it relatively easy to commute toward Baltimore, Aberdeen Proving Ground, or other employment centers along the I-95 corridor.
Shopping and dining are also close. The Boulevard at Box Hill and Constant Friendship Shopping Center are nearby and provide grocery stores, restaurants, fitness centers, retail stores, and everyday services. Downtown Bel Air is a short drive north.
Although Box Hill is surrounded by major roads and commercial areas, the residential sections themselves generally feel removed from the busiest traffic. Many streets have sidewalks, mature trees, established landscaping, and wooded or common areas.
Homes Throughout Box Hill
Because Box Hill is such a large community, there is no single home style that defines the entire neighborhood. You will find single-family colonials, ranchers, split-levels, split foyers, townhomes, and some condominium-style properties depending on the section and street.
Most homes were built from the 1970s through the 1990s, although construction dates vary throughout the community. Single-family homes commonly have three to four bedrooms, and lots are generally modest compared with some of Harford County’s more rural neighborhoods.
The age of the neighborhood also means buyers will see a wide range of conditions. Some homes have updated kitchens, bathrooms, flooring, windows, roofs, and mechanical systems, while others retain many of their original features. I recommend looking closely at both cosmetic updates and the age of major components when comparing homes.
Shopping, Recreation, and Nearby Amenities
The Boulevard at Box Hill is one of the area’s main shopping destinations and includes Wegmans along with restaurants, shops, and services.
Constant Friendship Shopping Center is located nearby along Emmorton Road and offers additional shopping, dining, fitness, and everyday conveniences.
Box Hill Pizzeria and Crabcakes is a longtime Abingdon restaurant best known locally for its crab cakes, along with pizza, subs, pasta, and other casual meals.
Downtown Bel Air is also a short drive away, providing locally owned restaurants, shops, community events, parks, and access to the Ma & Pa Heritage Trail.
Harford County Schools
School assignments within the larger Box Hill community can vary depending on whether a home is located in Box Hill North, Box Hill South, or another nearby section. The individual Box Hill North and Box Hill South neighborhood pages provide more specific school information.
Harford County school boundaries can change, so I always recommend that buyers verify the school assignment for the exact property they are considering directly with Harford County Public Schools before purchasing.
