What Makes Emerald Hills Special

Emerald Hills is a well-established, active community in Bel Air (zip code 21015) with a mix of condominiums, townhouses, villas, and single-family homes built between approximately 2000 and 2020. The development enjoys mature landscaping, winding streets, and an active residential feel, yet still offers direct access to the conveniences of Bel Air.

The community offers swimming pool, exercise room, and a community center that can be rented for events at a very reasonable price (when I lived there it was only $100).  Your HOA is reasonably priced for what it covers.  In addition to the amenities, it covers snow removal, common ground maintenance and trash pickup twice per week.

The Homes in Emerald Hills

As I mentioned earlier, the Emerald Hills community offers a mix of single family homes, townhomes, villas, and condos, giving buyers a variety of options depending on their lifestyle and budget.

The single family homes are located on Brunswick Drive, Moon Shadow Road, Stream View Court, and Lane Court. Most of these homes are traditional colonial style properties with around four bedrooms and flat lots averaging about a quarter acre in size. Buyers often appreciate the usable yard space and classic neighborhood feel. One thing to note is that Brunswick Drive tends to experience more traffic than you might expect for a residential neighborhood since it serves as one of the main roads through the community.

There are also two distinct styles of townhomes within Emerald Hills. The townhomes located on Mary Jane Lane and Sunswept Drive are the smaller models, typically offering three bedrooms. While these homes can be a more affordable entry point into the neighborhood, the parking situation and narrower streets are generally considered less desirable compared to other sections of the community.

The larger townhomes are located on Kelsey Court and Blair Court. These homes are much more spacious, often featuring four bedrooms along with improved parking and less traffic overall. I’ve personally sold many homes in this section over the years and can confidently say they remain some of the most desirable properties within Emerald Hills because of their size, layout, and overall setting.

The villas are located on Selvin Drive and are newer than much of the rest of the community. These homes are part of a 55+ section and are popular with buyers looking for lower maintenance living without giving up space. They include garages and typically offer three bedrooms.

Emerald Hills also includes condominiums, which are generally two bedroom units and can be a good fit for buyers seeking a more affordable option or simplified maintenance.

Location & Nearby Amenities

Having lived in the Emerald Hills neighborhood myself, here are some of the local spots I found myself visiting the most over the years. One of the things I’ve always appreciated about this area is how convenient it is to restaurants, shopping, parks, and downtown Bel Air.

Pappas Restaurant & Sports Bar is a local favorite for casual dining, watching games, and meeting up with friends. It’s especially well known for its crab cakes and lively atmosphere on weekends and game days.

Lib’s Grill is one of my favorite nearby restaurants for a nicer dinner or happy hour. It has a great menu, outdoor seating, and a more upscale but still comfortable atmosphere that many Bel Air residents enjoy.

Downtown Bel Air offers a charming downtown area filled with local restaurants, coffee shops, boutiques, and community events throughout the year. From farmers markets to summer concerts and holiday celebrations, downtown Bel Air always has something going on.

Greenbrier Shopping Center is incredibly convenient for everyday errands and shopping. With Safeway as the main grocery store along with restaurants, retail stores, and other services nearby, it’s a place most Emerald Hills residents visit regularly.

Rockfield Park is another great nearby amenity. The park features walking trails, sports fields, playgrounds, and hosts many local events throughout the year including festivals and seasonal activities. It’s a great place for families, outdoor exercise, or simply spending time outside.

Schools & Education in the Area

Residents of Emerald Hills are part of the Harford County Public Schools district. Students living in the community are typically assigned to Prospect Mill Elementary School, Southampton Middle School, and C. Milton Wright High School. As always, buyers should confirm school assignments directly with the county prior to purchasing a home, since school boundaries can change over time.
