Scots Fancy Homes for Sale & Neighborhood Overview
Welcome to Scots Fancy, a Bel Air neighborhood with homes tucked into a wooded setting near Maryland Golf and Country Club. The community offers a mix of single-family homes, townhomes, and villas, with several properties backing directly to the golf course. I’ve put this page together to give home buyers a better overview of what it’s like to live in Scots Fancy and what makes this neighborhood different from many other Bel Air communities. At the end of this page, you will find a list of current Scots Fancy homes for sale.
A Wooded Setting Near Maryland Golf and Country Club
Scots Fancy is located in the 21015 ZIP code in Harford County, Maryland. The neighborhood is reached from St. Andrews Way, which is located off East MacPhail Road near Maryland Golf and Country Club.
This part of Bel Air offers a quieter residential setting while still keeping shopping, restaurants, healthcare, and downtown Bel Air within a relatively short drive. Mature trees surround much of the neighborhood, and the nearby golf course contributes to the more open and scenic feel found in several sections of the community.
Homes in Scots Fancy
Scots Fancy has a variety of homes (single family, townhomes, and villas) found within the same neighborhood. Near the beginning of the neighborhood, you will find single-family homes built primarily during the 1970s and 1980s. These include a mix of colonial and ranch-style homes, many situated on lots ranging from approximately one-half acre to around an acre. The larger lots and mature landscaping give this portion of Scots Fancy a different feel than many newer Bel Air developments.
The townhomes were generally constructed during the 1980s and 1990s, while the villa-style homes were built mainly during the 1990s and 2000s. Many of the villas are located along Whispering Ridge, where properties back toward the first hole of Maryland Golf and Country Club. Homes along Starmount Lane, St. Andrews Way, and Candlelight Court may also have views or lots adjoining portions of the golf course.
Trees surround much of Scots Fancy, helping create a more private and peaceful residential setting. The terrain varies throughout the neighborhood, however. Some sections sit along hills, which means certain properties may have sloped yards rather than completely level lots.
What Buyers Should Know
Because Scots Fancy was developed over several decades, the condition and level of updating can vary considerably from one property to another. Some homes have undergone extensive renovations, while others may still have original or older kitchens, bathrooms, flooring, windows, or mechanical systems.
That variety can create opportunities for buyers who are comfortable making improvements, but it also makes it important to look beyond cosmetic appearance. When touring an older home, I recommend paying attention to major components such as the roof, HVAC system, windows, plumbing, electrical systems, and other improvements that may have been completed over the years.
Buyers should also consider the terrain of the individual property. Some homes have relatively level yards, while others sit on more noticeably sloped lots. Neither is necessarily better, but it is something worth evaluating based on how you plan to use the outdoor space.
