A Private Setting Near Wheel Road
Todd Lakes is located in the 21014 ZIP code in Harford County. The neighborhood sits off East Wheel Road near Route 543, providing a private residential setting that remains convenient to shopping, restaurants, schools, and other parts of Bel Air. Todd Lakes sits across from Willow Chase.
There are two entrances and two sections within Todd Lakes. The first entrance is located on Kings View Drive, closer to Route 543. The second entrance is on Waterford Drive. Neither section has through streets, which helps limit traffic within the neighborhood. Several ponds, large residential lots, and established landscaping contribute to the spacious character of the community.
Two Distinct Sections of Todd Lakes
The section reached from Waterford Drive includes homes on Waterford Drive, Waterford Court, Mazeland Drive, and Lundy Lane. Most of these homes were constructed during the 1980s and 1990s. Although they may not be quite as grand as some of the newer homes near Kings View Drive, they are still substantial single-family properties. Homes in this section commonly range from approximately 3,000 to 6,000 square feet and sit on multiple acre lots.
Mature trees and landscaping give this part of Todd Lakes a settled appearance. Many homes are positioned well back from the road and have long driveways, large yards, finished lower levels, attached garages, and generous indoor living spaces. Two of the neighborhood’s larger lakes or ponds are located beside this section, adding to its natural surroundings.
The newer section includes Kings View Drive and Mikara Court. Most of these homes were built during the 2010s and are generally larger than those in the original section. Some properties contain as much as 12,000 square feet of living space. Brick and stone exteriors are common, along with expansive floor plans, multiple garages, elaborate outdoor areas, and custom architectural details.
These newer homes also sit on multiple-acre properties. Four smaller ponds sit between the two sections. Across both sections, homes are generally well maintained, professionally landscaped, and positioned to provide more space between neighboring properties than is typical in many Bel Air developments.
The History Behind Todd Lakes
The history of Todd Lakes is closely connected to the Todd family and the land they farmed for generations. According to the neighborhood’s history, Eugene “Ute” Todd and his wife, Billie, began developing the community around 1980. Their plan was to create a neighborhood of custom homes that preserved the open views, water features, and natural character of the family’s former farmland.
The six lakes and ponds located throughout the neighborhood became an important part of its design and identity. These bodies of water support birds, fish, and other wildlife while also contributing to the local Chesapeake Bay watershed. Development continued over several decades, which helps explain the noticeable differences in the ages, designs, and sizes of homes found in the two sections of Todd Lakes.
What Buyers Should Know
Todd Lakes homes are among the more expensive residential properties in the Bel Air area. Buyers should be prepared for purchase prices, maintenance costs, property taxes, utility expenses, and insurance needs that reflect the size of the homes and lots.
