Fallston Homes for Sale: A Guide for Home Buyers

Welcome to Fallston, a semi-rural community in western Harford County known for its larger properties, open surroundings, and convenient location. As a local Realtor who lives in Harford County, I am very familiar with the area and have helped many buyers and sellers in Fallston. It can be a great place to live for buyers who want more land and a quieter setting without being too far from shopping, restaurants, schools, and major commuter routes. I have created this page to give buyers an overview of what it is like to live in Fallston, Maryland.

A Semi-Rural Location Near Bel Air Fallston Homes for Sale

Fallston is located in western Harford County in the 21047 ZIP code. It sits west of Bel Air and Forest Hill, north of Kingsville, and close to the Baltimore County line. Maryland Route 152, also known as Fallston Road, is one of the main roads through the community. It provides access toward Interstate 95 to the southeast and toward Jarrettsville and Maryland Route 146 to the northwest.

Fallston is also positioned well for exploring the Mid-Atlantic region. Baltimore’s Inner Harbor and Annapolis are manageable day trips, while Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, and Lancaster can generally be visited without an overnight stay. Maryland and Delaware beaches are popular weekend destinations, and parts of the New Jersey shore are also within driving distance. This gives residents access to cities, waterfront destinations, historic towns, and rural areas while still returning home to a quieter community.

About Fallston

Fallston Homes for Sale

Fallston is a census-designated community rather than an incorporated town. The area covers approximately 14 square miles and includes a mixture of farmland, wooded properties, established subdivisions, and newer residential construction. The Little Gunpowder Falls forms part of Fallston’s southern boundary near Baltimore County, while Winters Run is located along portions of its northeastern side.

The housing market in Fallston is varied. Buyers may find ranchers, split-level homes, Cape Cods, colonials, custom-built houses, townhomes, and properties with several acres of land. Some homes are located in traditional neighborhoods, while others sit along rural roads or private lanes. Lot sizes, septic systems, well systems, homeowners association requirements, and property conditions can differ greatly, even among homes that are relatively close together.

Many buyers consider Fallston because it offers more space than some of the communities closer to Bel Air or the Interstate 95 corridor. At the same time, larger lots and rural properties may require more maintenance. Buyers should consider the time and expense involved in caring for lawns, trees, private wells, septic systems, long driveways, and outbuildings when applicable.

Harford County Public Schools

Students living in Fallston attend schools within the Harford County Public Schools system. School assignments depend on the exact property address and current attendance boundaries. A Fallston mailing address does not automatically guarantee assignment to a particular elementary, middle, or high school.

I always recommend that buyers verify the school assignment directly with Harford County Public Schools before purchasing a home. School boundaries and feeder patterns can change, and information found in a real estate listing or on a third-party website may not be current.

About Leigh Kaminsky

Before becoming a Realtor, I was a schoolteacher in New York. I moved to Harford County in 2016 and entered real estate shortly afterward. I still remember what it was like to be new to the area. I enjoyed trying the local restaurants, attending community events, exploring the different towns, and taking day trips throughout Maryland and the surrounding states.

Harford County has been a great place to live. It offers rural landscapes, active town centers, parks, waterfront areas, restaurants, and convenient access to larger cities. My personal experience relocating here helps me understand the questions buyers often have when they are considering a new community.
