Forest Lakes Homes for Sale in Forest Hill, MD
Welcome to Forest Lakes, a large single-family home community in Forest Hill, Maryland. The neighborhood combines spacious homes with a prime Forest Hill location close to shopping, restaurants, schools, and everyday conveniences. I’ve put this page together to give home buyers a practical overview of what it’s like to live in Forest Lakes. At the end of the page, you will find a list of current Forest Lakes homes for sale.
A Convenient Forest Hill Location
Forest Lakes is located in the 21050 zip code in Harford County. The neighborhood sits between Grafton Road and Rock Spring Road, placing residents close to many of Forest Hill’s most frequently used shopping and dining areas.
Rock Spring Road provides a direct route toward Bel Air, while Grafton Road offers convenient access toward Fallston and other parts of northern Harford County. This location is one of the neighborhood’s biggest advantages. Grocery stores, restaurants, medical offices, retail shopping, and other everyday services are all nearby, while most streets within Forest Lakes still feel residential and removed from the busier commercial areas.
Forest Lakes Homes and Neighborhood
Forest Lakes is an HOA community made up primarily of modest sized single-family homes. Most of the neighborhood was developed during the 1990s, although there is a much wider range of home ages, with some properties dating to the 1960s and others built into the 2000s. This variety gives Forest Lakes a less uniform appearance than some other Harford County neighborhoods.
Colonial-style homes are the most common, but you will also find split-levels, ranchers, Cape Cods, and other designs. On average, homes are around 2,300 square feet with four bedrooms, although there is a considerable range in both home size and layout. Larger homes exceeding 3,000 square feet can be found throughout portions of the neighborhood. Lot sizes average approximately .28 acres.
One feature I like about Forest Lakes is the mature feel of the community. Many streets have established trees and landscaping, and sidewalks are found throughout much of the neighborhood. Some properties also offer more wooded settings. Homes closer to Grafton Road, including areas around Medallion Court and portions of Osborne Parkway, will most likely back to trees or wooded buffers.
Forest Lakes has a Walk Score of 27, so most errands will still require a car. However, the experience can vary depending on where your home is located. From portions of the neighborhood closer to Rock Spring Road, places such as Chick-fil-A, Dunkin’, Kohl’s, banks, and other businesses may be within walking distance.
What Buyers Should Know
Because Forest Lakes includes homes built over several decades, condition can vary substantially from one property to another. Some homes have undergone extensive renovations, while others may still have original kitchens, bathrooms, windows, roofing, HVAC systems, or other components.
For buyers, I would look beyond cosmetic updates and pay attention to the age and condition of the major systems. Two homes with similar square footage and layouts can have very different future maintenance costs depending on how well they have been updated. The variety of ages can also be an advantage because it gives buyers more choices in home style, condition, and price within the same general neighborhood.
Restaurants and Things to Do Near Forest Lakes
Enotria Italian Restaurant is a popular locally owned Forest Hill restaurant serving Italian dishes, brick-oven pizza, and fresh pasta made in-house. I highly recommend their catering.
Forest Hill Lanes is a longtime local bowling center offering open bowling, leagues, parties, and special events.
Tutto Fresco is another nearby Italian option on Bynum Road, with pizza, pasta, sandwiches, and traditional Italian dishes.
Mr. Souvlaki is a family-owned restaurant specializing in authentic Greek food. This is actually my favorite Greek restaurant in the area, and it is located right on Rock Spring Road.
Chris Dough’s Pizzeria & Bar is a casual local option for pizza and other Italian-American favorites, with dough made fresh daily.
Echo Frezco serves Mexican cuisine on Rock Spring Road and is another convenient dining choice just outside the neighborhood.
Harford County Schools
Forest Lakes residents are generally served by Forest Lakes Elementary School, Fallston Middle School, and Fallston High School. Forest Lakes Elementary is located directly within the neighborhood on Osborne Parkway, making it walkable from many homes.
School assignments can change, so buyers should always verify the current school boundaries with Harford County Public Schools before purchasing a home.
